WHY ANOTHER DEVOTIONAL?

This brief explanation first acknowledges and credits Samuel Bagster and family for this compilation of devotional meditations for each morning and evening of the year. This devotional is unique compared to most devotionals because the focus is on a specific topic utilizing only Scripture. There is no added commentary with the exception of an occasional altered pronoun or conjunction for good grammar.  The primary distinction of this devotional is that the NASB (1977) translation is utilized in place of the KJV translation.

It all began with Samuel Bagster, who was born in England just before the American Revolution. At age 7, he was enrolled in a school taught by the Baptist minister Dr. John Ryland, and at the close of his education he apprenticed to a bookseller. In 1794, at age 21, he opened his own bookshop on the Strand in London, resolving to sell only books of enduring Christian value. Samuel married Eunice Birch and they had twelve children. The tenth was named Jonathan. Years later when Jonathan was himself a husband and father, he prepared for family devotions each day by carefully selecting and compiling verses from throughout the Bible according to various themes. A key verse was always selected first, then Jonathan would search through the Scriptures for similar or related verses, weaving them all together into a tapestry of Scriptures for each morning and evening. One of Jonathan’s sons, Robert, remembered from his childhood how carefully his father compiled the selections: “Few are able to appreciate the heart-searching care with which every text was selected, the days, nay the weeks, of changes, alterations and improvements.” Sometimes the day’s passage was prayed over for weeks before Samuel was assured it was as full and rich as possible. It was Robert who, sometime in the mid-1870s, first published this collection of 732 Scripture readings—morning and evening portions for 366 days. He was assisted by his daughter, Ann, making Daily Light a labor of love spreading over four generations. Since then, it has become, by all accounts, the most widely read collection of topically-arranged daily Bible readings ever published. Many Christians testify that each reading seems to contain just the truth needed for that day. Even when used year after year, the passages always seem fresh and new. (Morgan, R. J. Nelson's annual preacher's sourcebook : 2002 edition. Page 168. Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers)

Why should one consider this type of "devotional" over Oswald Chambers or similar popular works? Please do not misunderstand - I am not saying devotionals written by men have no value. This devotional however depends solely upon God's Holy Word and the Holy Spirit for it's "effect".  Let me illustrate the principle -- Before the second generation of the children of Israel journeyed into the promised land of milk and honey, God gave Moses some "last minute" instructions to equip His people for the journey to insure their success in a hostile culture. Here are those words in which lies the "secret" to real "success" in all of life ---

"Take to your heart all the WORDS with which I am warning you today, which you shall command your sons to observe carefully, even all the WORDS of this law. For IT is not an idle WORD for you; indeed IT is your LIFE. And by this WORD you shall prolong your days in the land, which you are about to cross the Jordan to possess."  (Deut 32:46, 47)

Although this instruction was written specifically for Israel, the principle is universal and eternally applicable -- God's Holy and Precious Word is the source of our very spiritual life and spiritual success. Do you really believe this? (cf Jn6:63) Moses passed on to Joshua the same "secret" for success in spiritual warfare (Joshua 1:8). Job, despite incredible personal loss, knew and was sustained by the same "secret" (Job 23:12). Jeremiah in the midst of despair sought solace in the "secret" (Jer 15:16) Jesus refuted the devil with the "secret" (Mt 4:4). So surely you see the point. Devotionals are certainly commendable but it is only the pure milk of the Word that provides sustenance for real spiritual growth (1Peter2:2). So please, please give consideration to making this devotional part of your "breakfast" menu and your evening "meal" and as you "eat" and heed the truth therein, you will prove by your experience that the living and active words are truly your "life" and they will be the "joy and the delight of" of your heart (Jer 15:16, Ps119:98, 119:165). Only two things will last  eternally -- God's Word and People. Invest your time wisely in both by beginning and ending each day in His Word (be it this "devotional" or other "bibliocentric" Bible study). You will never (eternally) regret your decision.

May God give you the grace and the filling of His Spirit to behold wonderful things in His Word and to live in such a way that your life brings glory to the Father through our great High Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Testimonies of Others Who Have Read Daily Light

When Anne Graham Lotz faced a sudden crisis with her son’s unexpected cancer surgery, she opened a little book called Daily Light and found there just the verses she needed: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. . . . We know that all things work together for good. . . . With us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles. The Lord your God is in your midst, the Mighty One, will save.’ Anne later wrote, “God has spoken to me more often through the verses in Daily Light than through any other book, except my Bible.”

When CIM missionary Arthur Matthews was trapped in Communist China, uncertain of life or death, he was summoned before authorities who were pressuring him to earn his freedom by agreeing to spy for the Communists. That morning he kissed his wife and little one goodbye, and left for the police station, not knowing if he would ever return. In his pocket, he put a copy of Daily Light.

Vance Havner, the quaint North Carolina evangelist and writer, faced the greatest heartbreak of his life when his beloved Sara contracted a fatal disease. He turned to his Daily Light, and the reading for the day said: “This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.” When Sara died, Havner remembered that Lazarus had died, too. “I felt that God would be glorified in her passing,” Havner later wrote, “and He was.”

When missionaries Russell and Darlene Deibler were trapped in the South Pacific during the Japanese invasion in 1942, they faced the darkest days of their lives. Russell was shortly hauled away to a concentration camp, never to return. That evening, Darlene found comfort in her Daily Light. The reading for the evening of March 13 said: “O my God, my soul is cast down within me. . . . Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee. . . . Cast thy burden upon the Lord.” “For me in my need,” she later wrote, “the Lord had directed in the arrangement of the verses.”

In the biographies of minister, missionaries, church workers, and individual Christians, it is remarkable how often one comes across references to Daily Light. (adapted from Morgan, R. J. Nelson's annual preacher's sourcebook : 2002 edition. Page 168. Nashville: Thomas Nelson Publishers)

JANUARY 1, MORNING JANUARY 1, EVENING
One thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Father, I desire that they...whom Thou hast given Me, be with Me where I am, in order that they may behold My glory, which Thou hast given Me -- I know Whom I have believed and I am convinced that He is able to guard what I have entrusted to Him until that day -- He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.
Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. And everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable -- let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us fixing our eyes on Jesus the Author and Perfecter of faith.

Phil 3:13,14 John 17:24.--2 Ti 1:12.-- Phil 1:6. 1 Co. 9:24, 25.--Heb 12:1, 2.

The LORD is the one who goes ahead of you. He will be with you. He will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear, or be dismayed.

If Thy presence does not go with us, do not lead us up from here. -- I know, O LORD, that a man's way is not in himself, nor is it in a man who walks to direct his steps. -- The steps of a man are established by the LORD; And He delights in his way. When he falls, he shall not be hurled headlong; Because the LORD is the One who holds his hand.

I am continually with Thee; Thou hast taken hold of my right hand. With Thy counsel Thou wilt guide me, and afterward receive me to glory. -- I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

JANUARY 2, MORNING JANUARY 2, EVENING

Sing to the LORD a new song

SING for joy to God our strength; Shout joyfully to the God of Jacob. Raise a song, strike the timbrel, The sweet sounding lyre with the harp. -- He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; Many will see and fear, And will trust in the LORD.
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. -- the joy of the LORD is your strength. -- Paul...thanked God and took courage.
Knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the day is at hand. Let us therefore lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave properly as in the day, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual promiscuity and sensuality, not in strife and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.

Isa 42:10. Ps. 81:1, 2.--Ps40:3. Josh 1:9.--Neh 8:10.--Acts 28:15. Ro. 13:11-14

May my prayer be counted as incense before Thee, the lifting up of my hands as the evening offering.

YOU shall make an altar as a place for burning incense...and you shall put this altar in front of the veil that is near the ark of the testimony, in front of the mercy seat that is over the ark of the testimony, where I will meet with you. And Aaron shall burn fragrant incense on it...every morning when he trims the lamps...and...at twilight he shall burn incense... perpetual incense before the LORD throughout your generations.
Jesus is able to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them -- the smoke of the incense with the prayers of the saints went up before God out of the angel's hand.
You also as living stones are being built up as a spiritual house for a holy priesthood to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
Pray without ceasing...with all perseverance and petition for all the saints.

JANUARY 3, MORNING JANUARY 3, EVENING

He led them also by a straight way

HE found Jacob in a desert land, and in the howling waste of a wilderness; He encircled him, He cared for him, He guarded him as the pupil of His eye. Like an eagle that stirs up its nest, that hovers over its young, He spread His wings and caught them, He carried them on His pinions...Jehovah alone guided him -- Even to your old age, I shall be the same and even to your graying years I shall bear you! I have done it, and I shall carry you and I shall bear you, and I shall deliver you.

He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil for Thou art with me. Thy rod and Thy staff, they comfort me.

Jehovah will continually guide you and satisfy your desire in scorched places and give strength to your bones and you will be like a watered garden and like a spring of water whose waters do not fail -- For such is God, Our God forever and ever. He will guide us until death -- Who is a teacher like Him?

Ps 107:7. Deut 32:10-12.--Isa. 46:4.
Ps. 23:3, 4. Isa 58:11--Ps. 48:14.--Job 36:22.

What do you want Me to do for you?
...Lord I want to regain my sight

OPEN my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Thy law.
Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures -- The Helper, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name...will teach you all things -- Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.

The God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory...give to you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him: the eyes of your heart being enlightened, so that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe in accordance with the working of the strength of His might.

JANUARY 4, MORNING JANUARY 4, EVENING

You have not as yet come to the resting place and the inheritance which the LORD your God is giving you.

T
HIS is not your rest -- There remains therefore a Sabbath rest for the people of God -- where Jesus has entered as a Forerunner for us.

In My Father's house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you, for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself that where I am there you may be also -- with Christ, for that is very much better.

He shall wipe away every tear from their eyes and there shall no longer be any death. There shall no longer be any mourning or crying or pain. The first things have passed away -- There the wicked cease from raging and there the weary are at rest.
Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in or steal for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also -- Keep seeking the things above where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth.

Rev 21:4. Job 3:17. Mt. 6:20, 21.-- Col 3:1-2.

O death where is your victory?
O death where is your sting?

THE sting of death is sin -- but now once at the consummation of the ages He has been manifested to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. And inasmuch as it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment, so Christ also, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, shall appear a second time for salvation without reference to sin to those who eagerly await Him.
Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil and might deliver those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith. In the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to me on that day and not only to me but also to all who have loved His appearing -- who are waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.

Heb 2:14, 15. 2Ti 4:6-8 - Ro 8:23

JANUARY 5, MORNING JANUARY 5, EVENING

We who have believed enter that rest.

THEY weary themselves committing iniquity -- I see a different law in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind, and making me a prisoner of the law of sin which is in my members. Wretched man that I am! Who will set me free from the body of this death?

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. -- Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ through Whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand and we exult in hope of the glory of God.

The one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works as God did from His.-- Not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith -- This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest and this is the refreshing:

Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth.
Keep watch over the door of my lips.

IF Thou, LORD, shouldst mark iniquities, O Lord, who could stand? -- Because they were rebellious against His Spirit, He spoke rashly with his lips.
Not what enters into the mouth defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man.
A slanderer separates intimate friends. --There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, But the tongue of the wise brings healing. Truthful lips will be established forever, But a lying tongue is only for a moment. -- But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison. From the same mouth come both blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be this way.

Put...aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. Do not lie to one another since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices. -- For this is the will of God, your sanctification. -- No lie was found in their mouth. They are blameless.

JANUARY 6, MORNING JANUARY 6, EVENING

Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us & do confirm for us the work of our hands. Yes, confirm the work of our hands.

THY fame went forth among the nations on account of thy beauty, for it was perfect because of My splendor which I bestowed on thee declares the Lord GOD. -- We all with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.--The Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.

How blessed is everyone who fears the LORD, Who walks in His ways. When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands, You will be happy and it will be well with you -- Commit your works to the LORD, And your plans will be established.

Work out your salvation with fear and trembling for it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure. -- May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace, comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word.

The apostles gathered together with Jesus; and they reported to Him all that they had done and taught.

THERE is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.-- the LORD used to speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. -- "You are My friends, if you do what I command you. "No longer do I call you slaves, for the slave does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I have heard from My Father I have made known to you.

When you do all the things which are commanded you, say, 'We are unworthy slaves'.

You have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father!"

In everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.-- The prayer of the upright is His delight.

Remember me, O my God, for good

T
HUS says the LORD "I remember concerning you the devotion of your youth, the love of your betrothals, your following after Me in the wilderness -- I will remember My covenant with you in the days of your youth and I will establish an everlasting covenant with you -- I will visit you and fulfill My good word to you... for I know the plans that I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts -- I would seek God and I would place my cause before God Who does great and unsearchable things wonders without number -- Many O LORD my God are the wonders which Thou hast done and Thy thoughts toward us. There is none to compare with Thee. If I would declare and speak of them, they would be too numerous to count.

Neh 5.19 Jer 2.2 Ezek 16.60
Jer 29.10, 11 Isa 55.9 Job 5.8, 9 Ps 40.5.

I will be with you. I will not fail you or forsake you.

NOT one of the good promises which the LORD had made to the house of Israel failed. All came to pass -- God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do it? Or has He spoken and will He not make it good?
Jehovah your God He is God the faithful God, Who keeps His covenant and His lovingkindness to a thousandth generation with those who love Him and keep His commandments -- He will remember His covenant forever.
Can a woman forget her nursing child and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget but I will not forget you. Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands.
Jehovah your God is in your midst a victorious warrior. He will exult over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy.

Those who know Thy Name will put their trust in Thee for Thou O LORD hast not forsaken those who seek Thee.

T
HE name of the LORD is a strong tower. The righteous runs into it and is safe -- I will trust and not be afraid for the LORD GOD is my strength and song and He has become my salvation.
I have been young and now I am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his descendants begging bread -- For the LORD loves justice and does not forsake His godly ones. They are preserved forever. But the descendants of the wicked will be cut off -- The LORD will not abandon His people on account of His great name, because the LORD has been pleased to make you a people for Himself -- He delivered us from so great a peril of death and will deliver us, He on Whom we have set our hope. And He will yet deliver us.
Be content with what you have for He Himself has said "I WILL NEVER DESERT YOU NOR WILL I EVER FORSAKE YOU" so that we confidently say "THE LORD IS MY HELPER. I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT SHALL MAN DO TO ME?"

No lie was found in their mouth. They are blameless.

SEARCH will be made for the iniquity of Israel, but there will be none and for the sins of Judah but they will not be found for I shall pardon those whom I leave as a remnant -- Who is a God like Thee, who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious act of the remnant of His possession? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in unchanging love. He will again have compassion on us. He will tread our iniquities under foot. Yes Thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.
He has made you accepted in the Beloved -- in order to present you before Him holy and blameless and beyond reproach.
Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

Thou hast given a banner to those who fear Thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.

J
EHOVAH NISSI: The LORD is My Banner --  When the enemy comes in like a flood, the Spirit of Jehovah will lift up a standard against him.

We will sing for joy over your victory and in the name of our God we will set up our banners -- Jehovah has brought about our vindication. Come and let us recount in Zion the work of Jehovah our God! -- We overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us -- Thanks be to God Who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ -- the Author (Captain) of our salvation.

Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might -- valiant for the truth --Fight the LORD's battles-- 'All you people of the land take courage' declares Jehovah 'and work for I am with you...do not fear!' -- Lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest --Yet in a very little while, He Who is coming will come and will not delay.

One thing is needful.

THERE are many saying, "Who will show us any good?" Lift up the light of Thy countenance upon us, O LORD! Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and new wine abound.

As the deer pants for the water brooks, so my soul pants for Thee, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. -- O God, Thou art my God. I shall seek Thee earnestly. My soul thirsts for Thee, my flesh yearns for Thee in a dry and weary land where there is no water.

"I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall not hunger and he who believes in Me shall never thirst." Lord, evermore give us this bread -- Mary...was listening to the Lord's word seated at His feet. -- One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to meditate in His temple.

HRIST also loved the church and gave Himself up for her that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing but that she should be holy and blameless --And we proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, that we may present every man complete in Christ.
The peace of God...surpasses all comprehension -- let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body.
May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us eternal comfort and good hope by grace comfort and strengthen your hearts in every good work and word -- Who shall also confirm you to the end, blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Thou hast ascended on high, Thou hast led captive Thy captives. Thou hast received gifts among men, even among the rebellious also, that the LORD God may dwell there -- We are the temple of the living God just as God said "I WILL DWELL IN THEM AND WALK AMONG THEM AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE -- your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you -- You...are are being built together into a dwelling of God in the Spirit.

O us there is but one God, the Father, from Whom are all things and we exist for Him and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by Whom are all things and we exist through Him -- All (should) honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father Who sent Him -- Through Him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name -- He who offers a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me and to him who orders his way aright I shall show the salvation of God.
After these things I looked and behold a great multitude, which no one could count from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes and palm branches were in their hands and they cry out with a loud voice saying "Salvation to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb. Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen."

Who redeems your life from the pit

T
HEIR Redeemer is strong, the LORD of hosts (Jehovah Sabaoth) is His name -- I will ransom them from the power of Sheol. I will redeem them from death. O Death, where are your thorns? O Sheol, where is your sting?
Since then the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil and might deliver those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
He who believes in the Son has eternal life but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.
For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, Who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory -- when He comes to be glorified in His saints on that day and to be marveled at among all who have believed.

The only God our Savior

C HRIST Jesus, Who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption -- Can you discover the depths of God? Can you discover the limits of the Almighty? They are high as the heavens, what can you do? Deeper than Sheol, what can you know?
We speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom, which God predestined before the ages to our glory -- The mystery which for ages has been hidden in God, who created all things in order that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the rulers and the authorities in the heavenly places.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him --  The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without hypocrisy.

When shall I arise and the night be ended?

WATCHMAN how far gone is the night? The watchman says "Morning comes".
Yet in a very little while, He Who is coming will come and will not delay -- He is as the light of the morning when the sun rises, a morning without clouds

I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. You heard that I said to you, 'I go away, and I will come to you.'

Let all Thine enemies perish, O LORD but let those who love Him be like the rising of the sun in its might -- the people who know their God will display strength and take action -- for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of night nor of darkness.

There shall be no night there

The steadfast of mind Thou wilt keep in perfect peace because he trusts in Thee.

C
AST your burden upon the LORD, and He will sustain you He will never allow the righteous to be shaken -- I will trust and not be afraid for the LORD Jehovah GOD is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.
Why are you timid, you men of little faith? -- Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus -- In quietness and trust is your strength.
The work of righteousness will be peace, and the service of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever -- Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful -- Peace, from Him Who is and Who was and Who is to come.

Do not let the sun go down on your anger.

I F your brother sins, go and reprove him in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother... Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?" Jesus said to him "I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven --whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone; so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your transgressions.

Put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you -- Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

JANUARY 14, MORNING JANUARY 14, EVENING

The Father is greater than I.

W
HEN you pray, say: Our Father in heaven.-- My Father and your Father...My God and your God.
As the Father gave Me commandment, even so I do.-- The words that I say to you I do not speak on My own initiative, but the Father abiding in Me does His works.
The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand. -- Thou gavest Him authority over all mankind, that to all whom Thou hast given Him, He may give eternal life.
Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us. Jesus said to him, Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; how do you say, Show us the Father?  Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father is in Me? -- I and the Father are one. -- Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love.

H IS appearance was marred more than any man, and His form more than the sons of men.-- He was pierced through for our transgressions. He was crushed for our iniquities. The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed.
This hour and the power of darkness are yours. -- You would have no authority over Me, unless it had been given you from above.
The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil. -- He cast out many demons and He was not permitting the demons to speak, because they knew who He was.
All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.-- even the demons are subject...in [His] name.
The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet.

JANUARY 15, MORNING JANUARY 15, EVENING

My soul cleaves to the dust.
Revive me according to Thy word.

I
F then you have been raised up with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For...your life is hidden with Christ in God -- Our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ Who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.

The flesh sets its desire against the Spirit and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

So then, brethren, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh-- for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live -- Beloved I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts, which wage war against the soul..

A measure of faith.

ONE who is weak in faith -- strong in faith, giving glory to God --
O you of little faith, why did you doubt? -- Your faith is great. Be it done for you as you wish."
Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They said to Him, Yes, Lord...Be it done to you according to your faith.
Lord, Increase our faith! --  Building yourselves up on your most holy faith. --Firmly rooted and now being built up in Him and established in your faith. -- He who establishes us with you in Christ...is God. -- After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace...will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you.
We who are strong ought to bear the weaknesses of those without strength and not just please ourselves -- Let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this, not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother's way.
