BUT NOW is found in 77 verses in the New American Standard version. Some of these uses serve to introduce a striking and/or significant contrast. Each use provides an opportunity to the reader to "P & P", that is to Pause and Ponder (meditate) on the living and active Word of Truth. As one pauses, this "paired conjunction" usually begs several simple questions, why now, what now, when is now, etc. As you pause and ponder these questions, you are giving your Teacher, the Holy Spirit, an opportunity to illuminate the text to your mind and heart.
