PREACHERS
FROM THE PAST
MP3 SERMONS |
|
Introduction:
These sermons are Mp3 files made using a text to Mp3 conversion program
and a relatively natural sounding voice. While some words may be slightly
mispronounced, for the most part the quality and "listen-ability" is
reasonably good (not as annoying or robotic sounding as some computer
generated messages). I download these files to my Ipod and listen while
I'm driving or on a long bike ride. It is quite a treat to be able to
"redeem the time" (Ep 5:16) by listening to the "prince of preachers",
Charles Haddon Spurgeon.
Instructions:
One way to download these sermons is to hold your pointer over the desired
sermon and perform a "right mouse" click which will open a list of options
from which you choose "Save Target As..." which gives you the
choice of where you would like to save the file. Another way to download
these files is to Double click the link and the pop up will give you 3 options - "Open"
(plays the Mp3 on your computer), "Download" (Allows you to download to
your computer or your Ipod for portable listening) or "Cancel".
Note that the files
are fairly large (30-40MB) and may take several minutes to download
depending on the speed of your internet connection. |

The Blood of the Covenant -
Hebrews 13:20, 21 -
Sermon No. 1186 by C H Spurgeon - Delivered on the Lord's Day Morning,
August 2, 1874 Length: 41 Minutes (38MB)
Comment:
This is a wonderful sermon on the New Covenant in which Spurgeon
seeks to stimulate saints to pray for Christian life on a higher plane
writing "Do not be satisfied with a little, weak, almost imperceptible,
pulse of religion, of which you can hardly judge whether it is there or
not; but ask to feel the divine energies working within you, the eternal
omnipotence of God, struggling and striving mightily in your spirit until
sin shall be conquered, and grace shall gloriously triumph. This is a
covenant blessing. Seek ye for it."

Marvelous Lovingkindness -
Psalm 17:7 -
Sermon No. 2702 by C H Spurgeon - Delivered on Thursday Evening, October
20, 1881 Length:
34 Minutes 42 seconds (31.7MB)
Comment:
David prayed "Show Thy marvelous lovingkindness" (KJV) What a great
prayer. Have you ever prayed this prayer? Do you dare pray such a prayer?
Heb 4:16-note
invites us to pray boldly drawing "near with confidence to the throne of
grace, that we may receive mercy and may find grace to help in time of
need." Given this truth, dare we NOT pray this great prayer? Oh beloved,
let us offer up this prayer and "test (Jehovah) now in this, if (He) will
not open for (us) the windows of heaven, and pour out for (us) a blessing
until it overflows" (Mal 3:10) in Christ Jesus Who became poor that we
through His poverty might become rich.(2Co 8:9) Amen

The Lord's Famous Titles -
Psalm 146:7, 8, 9 Sermon
No. 2347 by C H Spurgeon - Delivered on Lord's Day Evening, November 10,
1889. Length:
28 Minutes 42 seconds (26.2MB)
Comment:
Spurgeon recounts five of Jehovah's titles - Emancipator, Illuminator,
Comforter, Rewarder and Preserver - inviting and encouraging us to run
into the strong tower of these mighty Names (Pr 18:10) and be lifted up
above the swirling storms of life. As you listen to Spurgeon unfold of the
truths of God's "Famous Titles", may you be led by the Spirit of Christ to
"Ascribe to the LORD the glory due His Name". Amen (Ps 29:2)
Here is a quote from this sermon:
Some are bowed down sadly by the
burdens of life. They have more to carry than most men have. They stagger
along from day to day beneath a load that threatens to crush them into the
dust. Oh, come to my Lord, who gives new strength to bear burdens, for he
raises up those that are bowed down! It is wonderful what a man can
do when God has laid his hand on him, and said to him, Be strong. You
are faint, and you will faint without your God; but you will be strong if
you come and trust him, for Jehovah raises them that are bowed down.

The Perpetuity of the
Law of God
- Matthew 5:18 - Sermon No 1660 by C H Spurgeon - Delivered on
Lord's Day morning, May 21, 1882.
Length: 42 minutes (40 MB)
Comment: Although this sermon is
somewhat "heavy", it is posted to address the misconception that even
though salvation in both Testaments is by grace through faith and not by
works of the Law, the Law itself has by no means been annulled, abolished
or abrogated. Spurgeon counters such fallacious thinking with eloquent
Bibliocentric logic and rhetoric.

Deliver Us From Evil -
Matthew 6:13 - Thomas
Watson
Length: 95 minutes
Comment: Watson gives an
exhaustive dissertation on sin - origin, nature, cure, effects followed by
pithy, practical instructions and exhortations. You have probably never
heard such a convincing and convicting discussion of sin. The Mp3 would be
an excellent way to redeem the time on a long trip or daily commute!
