PRAY IN HIS WILL
ACCORDING TO HIS WORD
|
|
The best resource to guide prayer according to His will is the Word of
God which reveals the will of God. Listed below are resources that first
focus on the Scriptures so that you might grow with respect to salvation
and
in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and thereby may
confidently enter the Holy place by the blood of Jesus, drawing near to
the Throne of Grace with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith.
Torrey's main Topic on "Prayer" multiple
subtopics covering over 150 Scriptures (remember to read each text in
its context to maximize proper interpretation and fruitful application).
As a suggestion you might consider going through these Scriptures
devotionally each morning and keep a diary of observations on the text. Then
as you pray these Scriptures back to your Father Who is in heaven, you
could keep a record of His faithfulness in answering.

Benjamin
Warfield, a great studier of the Bible, wrote in 1911
"Sometimes we hear it said
that ten minutes on your knees will give you a truer, deeper, more
operative knowledge of God than ten hours over your books. 'What!' is the
appropriate response, 'than ten hours over your books, on your knees?'" |

a nifty, easy to download and install
(no restart), simple to use Bible Verse pop up tool that will allow you to
read every cross reference in this study quickly, in context and in the
Version you prefer (Note: Only KJV is free. NAS, ESV, NIV, et al available
for purchase) When you hold the mouse pointer over the Scripture
reference, the passage pops up immediately and can even be highlighted (Go
to "Menu" > Options > Appearance.
Yellow works great).

works anywhere on the Web as well as
offline in Word for Windows, in email such as Outlook, etc. It can be
enabled or disabled easily (Menu > Disable). Try the free version. It
really works...you will be amazed and edified. (click

there is not a space between book name and chapter (Mt1:1 won't pop up but
Mt 1:1 will) |

C. H. Spurgeon on prayer
"The desires of the righteous shall be granted"
(Proverbs
10:24).
Because it is a righteous desire it is safe for God to grant it. It would be
neither good for the man himself, nor for society at large, that such a
promise should be made to the unrighteous. Let us keep the LORD's commands,
and He will rightfully have respect to our desires. When righteous men are
left to desire unrighteous desires, they will not be granted to them. But
then these are not their real desires; they are their wanderings or
blunders, and it is well that they should be refused. Their gracious desires
shall come before the LORD, and He will not say them nay. Does the LORD deny
us our requests for a time? Let the promise for today encourage us to ask
again. Has He denied us altogether? We will thank Him still, for it always
was our desire that He should deny us if He judged a denial to be best. As
to some things, we ask very boldly. Our chief desires are for holiness,
usefulness, likeness to Christ, preparedness for heaven. These are the
desires of grace rather than of nature -- the desires of the righteous man
rather than of the mere man. God will not stint us in these things but will
do for us exceeding abundantly. "Delight thy self also in the LORD, and he
shall give thee the desires of thine heart." This day, my soul, ask
largely!" (from

BESEECHING THE LORD OF THE
HARVEST
PRAYING THAT THE WORD
WOULD SPREAD RAPIDLY and BE GLORIFIED |
|
GLOBAL PRAYER DIGEST
One of the greatest privileges we have as disciples of Jesus Christ is to pray
for the salvation of the lost, beseeching the Lord for workers and praying
then
"that God may open up...a door for the word, so that" these workers "may speak
forth the mystery of Christ" (see note
Colossians 4:2) which is the
GOSPEL.
Do you have
difficulty praying? Specifically do you find
it difficult to pray for people you've never seen much less people whose names
you can't even pronounce? You are not alone. But if you truly desire to "fight
the good fight of faith" (1Tim
6:12) and just need some sound Biblical
"exhortation" to challenge and exhort you to enter into this glorious
spiritual struggle of interceding for the souls of men and women and children
from "every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues" (Rev
7:9), then I would recommend that you read "Prayer:
The Work of Missions" from a
mission conference address given by Dr. John Piper. Other than the Scriptures
themselves this is one of the best synopses on "why pray" for the "lost" that
I have ever seen. You won't be disappointed.
You can click on the link to
Global Prayer Digest to
see a new missions focused prayer updated daily and taking less that a minute
to pray through, certainly not long in light of eternity. The Global Prayer
Digest is a inter-denominational guide published by the U.S. Center for World
Missions which focuses monthly on a different major people group with the goal
being too guide focused intercession for over 9000 "Hidden People Groups"
(where "people group" defines a body of people having a common sociological
affinity and "hidden" reflects the fact that there is no established
evangelizing church among them).
GOSPEL FOR ASIA
Although not specifically related to prayer for missions, I would like to
introduce you to
Gospel For Asia -GFA,
a ministry I have been personally involved with for 20 years. God has blessed
this ministry "exceeding abundantly" to the point that they now have over
11,000 fully trained indigenous native missionaries in the 10/40 Window, the
most unreached and spiritually desolate region of the World.
You might be
saying to yourself "I've never even heard of
GFA. How could such
an obscure ministry fund so many missionaries"? That's a good question and the
answer may surprise you. It takes only hundreds of dollars per year to fully fund a native
missionary.
God has also provided
GFA with their own
printing press in India and they are printing several hundred thousand New
Testaments every month at the incredibly low prices. If the Lord leads, please
check out their
Website for more
details. Other than my association with
Precept Ministries International,
Gospel For Asia
has been one of the most exciting ministries I have ever been privileged to be
associated with for their workers are truly reaping in the fields that Jesus
said were white for harvest. |
