"You will come to appreciate the full force & magnetic beauty of Deuteronomy only as you read its pages....Nothing in literature matches the majesty of its eloquence. Nothing in the OT has any more powerful appeal for the spiritual life. No book in all the Word of God pictures better the life that is lived according to God's will & the blessings showered upon the soul who comes into the richness & fullness of spiritual living along the rugged pathway of simple obedience...If you want a taste of heaven on earth, become familiar with Deuteronomy."

Deuteronomy is the crown jewel of the Pentateuch. It lays before us clearly what God expects from those who have been redeemed: a life of uncompromising obedience.

Warren Wiersbe -

The Book of Deuteronomy may well be the longest farewell speech in recorded history. It’s certainly the longest farewell speech found in Scripture. But it’s much more than a farewell speech, because in this series of addresses Moses sought to equip this generation for their new life in the Promised Land. One of the most important responsibilities of the older generation is teaching the younger generation the Word of God and the principles of godly living, and Moses fulfilled that task superbly....

In a spiritual sense, too many Christians stand with Israel in Deut. 1:1–3. They are redeemed from Egypt, but they have not yet entered into their spiritual inheritance. They stand “on this side of Jordan” instead of in the Promised Land of blessing. They need to hear God’s Word again and step out by faith to claim their inheritance in Christ.

“Deuteronomy is one of the greatest books of the Old Testament. Its influence on the domestic and personal religion of all ages has not been surpassed by any other book in the Bible.

The theme of Deuteronomy may surprise you. The great theme is Love and Obey.

John 14:15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

JESUS AND DEUTERONOMY

Luke 4:1  And Jesus, FULL OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, returned from the Jordan and was LED BY THE SPIRIT in the wilderness
2  for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days; and when they had ended, He became hungry.
3  And the devil said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread."
4  And Jesus answered him, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE.'" (MATTHEW 4:4 ADDS - BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'") (Deuteronomy 8:3)
5  And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
6  And the devil said to Him, "I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish.
7  "Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours."
8  And Jesus answered and said to him, "It is written, 'YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND SERVE HIM ONLY.'"  (Deuteronomy 8:3)
9  And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here;
10  for it is written, 'HE WILL GIVE HIS ANGELS CHARGE CONCERNING YOU TO GUARD YOU,'
11  and, 'ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP, LEST YOU STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE.'" (MISQUOTE OF Psalm 91:11-12 - Satan omits "IN ALL THY WAYS")
12  And Jesus answered and said to him, "It is said, 'YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST.'" (Deuteronomy 6:16)
13  And when the devil had finished every temptation, he departed from Him UNTIL AN OPPORTUNE TIME.
14 And Jesus returned to Galilee IN THE POWER OF THE SPIRIT, and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district.
15 And He began teaching in their synagogues and was praised by all.

PRAYER BY RAY STEDMAN

Our Father, what marvelous truths you have unfolded to us in this great word in Deuteronomy. How feebly we apprehend it, but teach us, Lord; teach us by your Holy Spirit. Teach us, young and old alike. Teach us to be dissatisfied with life in the wilderness. Lord, make us to be fed up with this continual barrenness, this empty, frustrating experience of trying to do something on our own, and struggling and failing all the time.

Make us desperately ready to listen, and to heed this delivering word, Lord: how we can be set free from this wretched man and made to walk in fullness of your Spirit so that the righteousness which the law

THE KEY TO ENTERING THE BLESSING - Deuteronomy 5:1 Then Moses summoned all Israel and said to them: “HEAR, O Israel, the statutes and the ordinances which I am speaking today in your hearing, that you may LEARN them and OBSERVE them carefully.
